Things To Consider

Instalment loans are intended to be used for short-term financial issues, but need to be used responsibly, as missed payments can lead to further financial problems. Depending on the lender, penalties may apply if you are late with payments. Also, the longer a loan is for, usually, the more it will cost overall, even if the cost of individual payments and the APR is lower. To learn more about costs, please visit our 'Charges' page.

Agreements with lenders

If you are offered a loan as a result of applying with FlexCredit, this will be from a lender, not from us. As a result, any agreements that you sign after you apply with us will be with the lender. We have no influence over the agreements, so please make sure you read their terms and conditions for the loan, so you are aware what you are signing up for. Please note also that we have no control over what it costs to call the lender. While some may offer free calls, others may charge a national or local rate.

Implications of non-payment

Not repaying instalments on time can lead to penalties and increased interest overall. In repeated cases of non-payment, lenders have their own debt collection policies, as well as policies on interest, penalties and charges. You may be contacted and your details could be passed on to debt collection agencies. In more extreme cases, court orders may be taken out, and this could lead to repossession of belongings and property. It's important to make sure you will be able to repay on time, and to contact your lender if you are having any issues.

Will a short-term loan affect my credit rating?

Applying for a loan with flexcredit should not show up on your credit rating, although if you are accepted, a lender may perform a more thorough credit check. Otherwise, an instalment loan should not affect your credit score unless you default. If you would like to know what information a lender checked when they searched your credit history, you can find out by contacting them. FlexCredit does not perform credit checks or provide credit.

Where to get free advice

If you are repeatedly taking out short-term loans, or are considering taking out a short-term loan without knowing if you’ll be able to repay it or not, this may be a sign that you are dealing with more serious long-term debt issues. If so, you may be able to get some help and advice at the Citizens Advice Bureau or the Money Advice Service. Be wary of anywhere that charges a fee to help you consolidate debts. If you are having issues with a specific creditor and are unable to resolve them amicably directly, you may wish to escalate it. You can do this by contacting the Financial Ombudsman Service for free on 0300 123 9123 or at their website at
